Balancing the performance and cost of antenna measurement RF sub-systems is an important part of the design process. Small or low frequency systems often use a centrally located vector network analyser without any remotely installed RF electronics. As these systems get larger or the frequency increases, the need to locate RF components remotely to maximize the available dynamic range grows. Support for multiple RF bands, changes in the direction of propagation, adjustable power levels, or special test modes, highlight the requirement to automate range reconfiguration. This paper discusses some features of a range automation system used to support high throughput production testing in antenna measurement facilities.
